Columns, Antique Brick & Carved Mantels

A Majestic Villa

A villa given its proportions back by reclaimed stone. Salvaged limestone columns carry the arches of the loggia, their cream colored faces squared off on plain bases, while antique brick paving runs the length of the corridor beneath to an iron garden gate. Inside, the stone becomes the quiet constant: a reclaimed floor steps down from the dining room to the sitting room, where an antique limestone mantel frames a herringbone firebrick firebox and a fire already lit. In the formal living room a second mantel, carved by hand with a pierced fretwork frieze and scrolled legs, stands against the light of the garden doors. The kitchen closes the sequence in warmer tones, hexagonal terracotta underfoot, reclaimed brick across the backsplash, and a honed natural stone counter running to the sink.
